Sports Industry Niche - 10/31/2008

Think you had an active summer? Well think twice. Cascade Web Development has capitalized on the thriving sports industry generated out of Portland's clustering initiative. The Portland Region has focused a great deal of resources on cluster development over the last few years. With brands like Nike, Adidas, KEEN, Icebreaker and more, Portland has a real opportunity in the sports industry. CWD has leveraged the initiative to grow as well.

July:

  1. Tecnica USA: Relationships, quality service and technology all paid off when Tecnica decided to move to the Evergreen platform. Resources had become an issue in these tough economic times so the ability to manage the website on their own was a major cost savings. This project kicked off in late July and will launch in early November.
  2. Salomon Snowboards: CWD's amazing partner, FRANK CREATIVE helped this one become a reality. Unfortunately for Portland, the majority of Salomon product lines moved to Utah in the Spring of '07. The snowboard division stayed in Portland. Salomon was also very interested in the Evergreen Content Management System. Read more on our blog about how we combined flash with traditional CMS capabilities.
  3. Bonfire Apparel: A close partner/division of Salomon, Bonfire had similar needs for high impact user experience on the front end and progressive technology on the back end.
  4. Tarponwear Fishing Gear: This project was a direct result of the clustering effect in Portland Oregon. Spin off talent from the billion dollar players in town put a great team together for the re-launch of a brand that really had a position in the 2005 market.
August:
  1. Launch: Nordica Nsider Lounge: Cascade Web Development's continued experience in the sports industry has helped evolve strategies for existing clients. Nordica launched the 3rd version of the Nsider Lounge with new features, business intelligence reporting capability and a new design from SPDzine.
  2. BaileyWorks: Another project from FRANK CREATIVE, which by the way has an amazing history in the sports industry and recently moved back to Portland from California. Bailey Works kicked off a new e-commerce application set to launch in early November.
  3. Launch: Nordica Canada: A sub division of Nordica International, Nordica Canada used Portland based Cascade Web Development because the talent was here and their partner was already on board. This is a direct result of the cluster effect.
September:
  1. KEEN Footwear: New to the client roster for Cascade Web Development, KEEN Footwear moved to Portland in 2006. Personal relationships and the cluster effect made this opportunity possible. September kicked off a new Intranet business initiative for KEEN. Sorry can't say more....
  2. Launch: Blizzard Sport USA: After a brief departure from the Portland web development resource pool, Blizzard came back to Cascade Web Development for the Evergreen Content Management System.
  3. Independent Fabrications: Yes another cluster spin off, this opportunity came to CWD from our partner group. This project has kicked off with a brand initiative and new front end website set to launch in December.
